- Bill
Nye the Science Guy
Nye Labs Online first hit the web in May of 1995. Since then, the
lab has grown to well over two hundred unique html pages, all
designed to provide you with your daily dose of Bill Nye the
Science Guy. The current version of Nye Labs Online was designed
to be most effective when used with Netscape Navigator 3.0 or
Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.0. As you wander around the lab,
you are also likely to encounter sounds and videos which require
additional software. We have created a short list of applications
which we recommend that you download and use while you explore the
lab.

- "The
pH Factor"-
is a site directed towards elementary and middle school teachers,
and this site more than accommodates that desired audience. The
web site is a good resource for "alternatives" to the standard
curriculum -- alternative approaches (i.e. multiple lab
activities), alternative use of materials (i.e. gumdrops for
molecule displays) and assessment tools (i.e. performance-based,
portfolio, or journal-based) are all presented. Moreover, if for
some reason, one was unable to carry out any of the activities in
the classroom setting, the activities can be attempted
interactively on the web site itself.

-
the global weekly of research, is published by the American
Association for the Advancement of Science. SCIENCE On-Line is
published with the assistance of Stanford University's HighWire
Press(TM).
- Virtual

- The
Why Files-
is a dynamic, factual and interactive home for detailed insights
into what political polls can (or cannot) tell us, why comets once
inspired mass terror, and why cows are scaring people in Europe. A
product of the new National Institute for Science Education (NISE)
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, The Why Files was
developed to provide convenient and free access to accurate,
readable information about events that touch nearly everyone, says
Susan Trebach, leader of the team that developed the novel web
page.

There
are well over 1 000 000 different known species of insects in the
world, and some experts estimate that there might be as many as 10
000 000. They are divided up into 32 orders (depending on whose
taxonomic system you use) of which the largest is the Beetles
(Coleoptera) with 125 different families around 500, 000 species.
